Bylaws of the Head Tax Families Society of Canada

PART 2 - MEMBERSHIP
2.1 The members of The Society are the applicants for incorporation of The Society and those persons who subsequently have become members in accordance with these bylaws and, in either case have not ceased to be members.
2.2 Membership in The Society shall be open to all individuals and organizations upon approval by the Board.
2.3 An individual or organization may apply to the directors for membership in The Society and on approval by the directors is a member.
2.4 There shall be two types of memberships, associate members and voting members.
 
a) An associate member is defined as non-paying, non-voting member in good standing approved by the Board. Non-voting members shall not exceed the number of voting members.
b) A voting member is defined as a Canadian resident in good standing for a minimum of three months.
2.5 Every member must uphold the constitution and comply with these bylaws.
2.6 The amount of the first annual membership dues must be determined by the directors and after that the annual membership dues must be determined at the annual general meeting of the society.
2.7 A person ceases to be a member of the society
 
a) by delivering his or her resignation in writing to the secretary of the society or by mailing or delivering it to the address of the society
b) on his or her death;
c) on being expelled
d) on having been a member not in good standing for 12 consecutive months.
2.8 All member shall be in good standing except:
 
a) A member who has delivered his resignation in writing to the secretary of The Society or by mailing or delivering it to the address of The Society;
b) A member who has failed to pay his current membership fee or any other subscription or debt due and owing by him to The Society, and is not in good standing so long as such fee, subscription or debt remains unpaid;
c) A member who is expelled by the Directors.
2.9
a) A member may be expelled by a special resolution of the members passed at a general meeting.
b) The notice of special resolution for expulsion must be accompanied by a brief statement of the reasons for the proposed expulsion
c) The person who is the subject of the proposed resolution for expulsion must be given an opportunity to be heard at the general meeting before the special resolution is put to a vote.
2.10 The members enjoy all the rights and privileges granted by The Society.
